PCS School Library

Please find a notice regarding the school library on our website.

Monday, 1 June 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,
We are updating you in regards to students borrowing books from our Library for take home reading.

We are in the process of updating our school library computer system. Therefore we ask that students continue reading at home using books from home and from online resources.

Our local public library is offering free access to online books and will deliver books to homes. This service can be accessed via their website https://www.cclc.vic.gov.au/library-at-home/

However if you do not have access to books at home let us know and we will arrange some books for your child to read at home. The current education guidelines say that studies suggest that the risk of contracting the virus through the transfer of educational materials is very low. This low risk has been strengthened in Victoria through physical distancing measures that have been put in place.

Staff and students are advised to adopt standard precautions around dealing with hard-copy educational resources (eg. books, games) just like they would with groceries and postal items.

 Wash hands often with soap and running water for at least 20 seconds. Dry with paper towel or a hand dryer. Where soap and water are not available, use an alcohol based hand sanitiser with over 60% alcohol.
 Try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
There is no requirement for books to be placed aside for a given period after use or if loaned to students.

The Department continues to update its advice and information. For the latest, visit the Department's coronavirus (COVID-19) website and Department of Health and Human Services website.

Therefore, once our new library borrowing system is up and running we can return to students borrowing books from our Library for take home reading with the handwashing precautions above put into place at home and at school. Parents will have the option of continuing to use online reading resources at home if that is best for their home situation.

We are intending for this take home system to be in place again by Tuesday June 9th when all students return to school.

Kind Regards
Katrina Stewart
Principal
