A message from the Principal:

I’m sure that by now you will have heard that school will be different during Term 2. We are all setting out into a new world of remote online learning. The teaching staff have spent their break preparing for this new adventure. We feel ready to start, but will be learning a lot as we go. This has never been done before so we are not sure of all of the issues we may encounter. What we do know is that we care for the social, emotional and academic growth of all our students and we will miss being with them physically. We are all working hard to ensure that the students get the best possible education during this time.

We will need parents support. We need parents to assist their child to develop routines while at home and to focus on their tasks. We will also need parents to stay in touch with us about any technical issues or other concerns they may have. We will continue to deliver the educational program for all our PCS students. We don’t need you to find extra work or download programs. It will be more important than ever for us to ensure that all our students are learning the same topics. We know that this will not be forever and we will return to our classrooms as soon as we can. When we do, our teachers will be able to continue their program from the point where the home program was up to.

Children who can learn from home MUST stay home. Children who do not have someone to supervise them at home will be able to do their learning at school. There will be a few staff at the school to supervise the learning for these students. The program will be the same as if they were at home and their teacher will not be available at school to assist with the work. Very soon we will be posting a link to an online survey for parents to complete which will include an option for families to notify us if you need to use this service. If you will be at home but are unable to access a device or the internet to get online, you will also be able to notify us through the online survey. Please email the school if you have any questions regarding this.

Please trust us and believe that we have your child’s best interests and developmental program at the centre of all we do. If you have any questions, just ask us; Please don’t scrutinise what we do on social media. We will always answer your questions and the normal processes for concerns is still available. The school email address is pakenham.cs@edumail.vic.gov.au and is monitored everyday if you have any questions, suggestions or concerns. This pandemic is a global crisis and has made us all leave our routines and comfort zones. I hope the experts find a vaccine soon and we can all return to PCS. In the meantime let us all make new memories, ones which have never been available before, enjoy unprecedented time with your children and stay safe.

We will get through this!

Regards,

Katrina Stewart
