Reading at Home

Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers

To encourage students to read at home we will be presenting awards at assembly and in classrooms, to students who achieve designated numbers of nights reading at home. Each classroom grade is currently establishing their Take Home Reading Routines and organising Classroom Libraries. To allow this to happen and in being fair to all, the beginning date for collation of these nights for school rewards will be Monday 10th February 2020.

Please note that Parent/Carer signatures in diaries will be the evidence that teachers will use for nights to be counted towards reading awards. These signed Diary entries will need to be seen and tallied by teachers on a regular basis (daily is requested) for nights read at home to be counted towards awards. School term holidays will not be counted towards school awards.
The rewards for nights read at home will be presented at assembly will be for 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 nights. Rewards for 25, 75, 125, 175 and 225 nights will be given within classrooms.

The Victorian Education website states: “Making time to read regularly with your children is an important part of literacy development, according to the State Library of Victoria's Rebecca Henson. 'Children often take their cues from their parents,' Rebecca says. 'The key is to have a regular routine for reading together at a time that suits you both. Claiming even 10 minutes a day for reading together has been shown to make a difference.'

Let’s all work together to support all students at PCS to value reading. If you have any questions regarding our reading awards please see your child’s classroom teacher or Literacy Coordinator, Sue Greenough.

Kind Regards
